Vital Link Ventures was established in 1993 for the purpose of providing specialized first aid training courses in Victoria BC to private groups. The instructors delivering these classes are from the emergency services field, including police, fire and ambulance.

Training

CPR/AED TRAINING

Courses on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) provide the skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies and choking. Courses meet legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards, and include the latest CPR.

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT

Teaches the important steps to perform a rapid assessment, perform Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, and perform rapid defibrillation including use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy can also be added as additional certifications to this course.

EMERGENCY FIRST AID

Basic one-day course offering lifesaving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for the workplace or home. Course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.

STANDARD FIRST AID

Comprehensive two-day course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies. Course meets legislation requirements for worker safety and insurance boards.

MARINE BASIC FIRST AID

Comprehensive two-day course which uses a combination of lecture, discussion, and scenarios, designed to meet the needs of those expected to provide first aid in the marine/fishing environment. Course meets the requirements of Transport Canada outlined in Transport Publication (TP) 13008 E.

MARINE ADVANCED FIRST AID

Designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to apply immediate first aid in the event of accident or illness on board a vessel. Participants will gain knowledge of marine first aid equipment, and the transferring of patients from a ship.

FIRST RESPONDER

Building on the knowledge and skills within the Emergency Care for Professional Responders text, gain the knowledge and skills needed to provide appropriate patient assessments, interventions, and ongoing care in the workplace. This course meets CSA Standard Z1210-17 First Aid Training for the Workplace.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONDER

Learn and demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to provide appropriate patient assessments, interventions, and on-going care, including the transportation of a patient to a healthcare facility. Course content may vary depending on jurisdictional requirements.

INSTRUCTOR COURSES

For candidates who wish to deliver Canadian Red Cross Professional Responder courses, including Basic Life Support (BLS), First Responder (FR), Advanced First Aid (AFA), Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Oxygen Therapy (OT), Marine Advanced First Aid (MAFA) and Airway Management (AM).

Training Experience

Lead Instructor Trainer Kevin Cleaver was the former training supervisor for the Victoria Branch of St. John Ambulance as well as a practising paramedic with the BC Ambulance Service. While transitioning into a full-time career with the fire department he established Vital Link Ventures in 1993. Initially vital link ventures provided training courses to the Canadian Coast Guard and local Municipal Police departments. Now they deliver over 100 courses per year by a trained team of Instructors with extensive experience in the emergency services field.
